15 minutes until landing in Italy

If I could put one emotion on the feeling of landing in the city that will be home for the next few months, it would have to be all of them. For one, I’m antsy after a 14 hour flight and my body is itching to do more than walk back and forth. I’ve tried to keep myself busy by watching an Italian movie, (la donna per me), starting a new book (The Ninth House), finishing a scholarship essay, researching Italian phrases, and writing a list of must see places in Rome. Second, I’m freaking out!!!!!!! I can’t believe I feel the plane lowering right now! I can’t believe that in less than an hour I’ll be on the streets of Rome. The twelve hour flight was actually not as scary as it seemed. I flew ITA Airways, which had nice lasagna lunch and a good selection of movies and music and Angry Birds. With some movies, a book and a laptop, the flight flew by. I was also bone tired from staying up late overthinking my packing, but trying to ignore the devil on my shoulder and underpack was a severe challenge. The nice Italian dad next to me on this flight pointed out some nice cities for me to visit on the flight map, and he convinced me that I need to see Naples. This has to be one of the most exciting days of my life. Before we went to Catalina, Julia’s mom told a story of her friend whose legs went numb from sitting on a long plane ride because she developed blood clots. I was afraid that during the plane ride I would get the blood clots so I did many limited walks, all the while imagining who my roommates will be and whether we’ll get along and how my room will look and what will I eat today? Today is a big mystery that is about to unfold!

Post day edit: I did not get blood clots, I was not on the streets of Rome immediately due to waiting for the school shuttle for longer than I should have, my roommates are sweet girls from Baltimore, Temecula, and Serbia (world’s most random trio), and today I ate a pizza.
